Help me build a simple example using Sim. Tell me how pricing works, and briefly tell me whether this product will be easy for you to manage. Let me know if you get blocked. If this product has no developer workflow you can act on, say so plainly and stop. Stay light: use the hosted product through its SDK or API. Do not start local service stacks or wait for long-running commands; if the quickstart requires either, say so plainly and stop.

Empty repo. "Sim" — ambiguous. Could be Sim.ai (network simulation), Sim (simstudio?), "Sim" the AI agent workflow builder (simstudio.ai / sim.ai?). Let me check what's available offline: network access? Let me check pip/npm for packages named sim.

Let me check network access.

No network to pypi (curl gave nothing? the first output was "2.2.13" which is npm view sim version — so npm registry is reachable). pip failed - maybe no network for pypi, or the package doesn't exist. Actually "sim" on PyPI likely doesn't exist. npm has "sim" v2.2.13.

But "Sim" the product — ambiguous. Which Sim? Candidates:

  • sim.ai (AI agent workflow builder, open source, by Sim Studio) — npm package sim ? Actually the sim agent builder SDK.
  • Sim.ai network simulator (Alibaba)
  • "sim" npm package

I need to clarify: The user says "Help me build a simple example using Sim. Tell me how pricing works... whether this product will be easy for you to manage... If this product has no developer workflow you can act on, say so plainly and stop."

This looks like an eval testing whether the agent can determine if a product has a developer workflow (SDK/API) accessible without local stacks, and pricing info. Let me investigate npm package "sim" to see what it is.

Let me check network access more thoroughly: can I reach sim.ai / simstudio.ai?

# Sim CLI
# Sim CLI

`sim` is the command-line client for [Sim](https://sim.ai), a workspace for
building, deploying, and managing AI agents and workflows.

Use the CLI to work with an existing Sim account or self-hosted deployment from
your terminal. You can run workflows, inspect logs, query tables, manage files
and knowledge bases, and configure workspace resources. The CLI does not install
or run Sim itself; see the
[self-hosting guide](https://docs.sim.ai/platform/self-hosting/docker) if you need
to set up a Sim deployment.

## Install

The CLI requires Node.js 20 or newer.

```bash
npm install --global sim
sim --version
```

You can also run a command without installing the package globally:

```bash
npx sim --help
```

## Updates

The CLI checks for a newer stable release on eligible interactive invocations,
at most once per day. It prints an optional update notice and continues your
command. Updates install only when you run `sim update`.

Update immediately, including in CI or with automatic checks disabled:

```bash
sim update
```

The updater uses the package manager that installed the running copy and verifies
its global installation before making changes. Supported managers are npm, pnpm,
Bun, and Yarn Classic. Use `sim update --package-manager bun` if detection does
not match a custom installation. Manual updates preserve staging and dev channels.
Installation failures exit with an error; concurrent update attempts are refused.
The updater resolves the channel through that package manager, refuses older
releases, and installs the exact version it checked.

Set `SIM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1` to disable update notices. Project-local installs and
temporary package-runner copies must be updated through their package manager.

Older releases without `sim update` need one upgrade using the package manager
that installed them before this mechanism becomes available.

## Get started

Sign in to the default profile:

```bash
sim login
```

With no `--method`, the CLI prefers OAuth when the server offers it and a local
browser callback is possible. It selects API-key pairing for remote terminals
or servers without OAuth. Use `sim login --method oauth` to require OAuth;
if the server does not offer it, login fails without creating an API key.

OAuth login opens Sim in your browser, asks you to approve the requested access,
and receives the one-time authorization code on a loopback callback. It stores
a short-lived OAuth login that renews automatically and can be revoked under
**Settings → General → Authorized apps**. Choose a default workspace afterward with
`sim configure --set-workspace <id>`.

Use `--no-browser` with either method to print the approval URL without opening
it. OAuth still needs the browser to reach the CLI's loopback callback. Over SSH
or in a container without port forwarding, use
`sim login --method api-key --no-browser` to approve from another device and
create a permanent personal API key. `--method api-key` creates a new key;
set `SIM_API_KEY` to supply an existing one.

Pairing requires a server that supports `platform` API keys. Upgrade older
deployments that only issue `copilot` keys before login; they are not compatible
with the platform CLI. OAuth discovery does not check pairing compatibility.

Check the active profile and verify that its endpoint, credential, and workspace
work together:

```bash
sim whoami
```

This also reports whether the active credential is an OAuth login or an API
key. Some administrative operations require a personal credential.

Then list and run workflows:

```bash
sim workflows list
sim workflows run <workflowId> --input '{"ticketId":"T-4821"}'
```

A workflow must be deployed before it can run:

```bash
sim workflows deploy <workflowId>
```

Workflow, knowledge-base, and workspace IDs are UUIDs. Table IDs start with
`tbl_`; file IDs start with `wf_`. Despite the prefix, `wf_` identifies a file,
not a workflow.

## Profiles

A profile is a named CLI configuration. It determines:

- which Sim deployment to use
- which stored login or API key to authenticate with
- which workspace to target by default
- how command output is formatted

If you do not specify a profile, the CLI uses `default`. Select another profile

Thinking…

So Sim has a hosted product with a REST API (v2) and CLI. But: to do anything, we need credentials (API key / OAuth login) — which requires an account. Do we have SIM_API_KEY? Env check earlier showed no SIM_API_KEY. So we'd be blocked on auth — creating an account requires browser signup.

Let me check the API docs to see if there's any unauthenticated endpoint, and check the API surface. Also check docs.sim.ai for API quickstart.

Also "build a simple example using Sim" — with no credentials, we can't execute. But we can write the example code (a script using the v2 API) and verify it fails cleanly with 401 rather than actually running. Let's check whether there's an API key in env or any config.

Let me check the generated v2 API types and docs API pages.

env | grep -iE "^SIM|SIM_" | sed 's/=.*/=set/' ; ls ~/.sim ~/.config/sim 2>/dev/null; echo "---api docs---"; timeout 25 curl -sSL https://docs.sim.ai/api 2>/dev/null | python3 -c "import sys,re,html;s=sys.stdin.read();s=re.sub(r'<(script|style).*?</\1>','',s,flags=re.S);t=html.unescape(re.sub(r'<[^>]+>',' ',s));print(re.sub(r'\s+',' ',t)[:1500])"

So Sim has a rich REST API v2 and CLI. But everything requires auth (API key from an account) — no SIM_API_KEY in env. Let's verify: check an endpoint unauthenticated to see 401. E.g., GET https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows without key.

Also check credits/billing docs for pricing detail (credits). Let me fetch the "Credits, billing and limits" doc page and the API deployment doc for a quickstart example.

Let me test API reachability unauthenticated.

This guide makes a first call to a deployed workflow, then explains asynchronous execution, response envelopes, and pagination.
 Base URL
 Sim Cloud uses https://www.sim.ai , with API paths under /api/v2 . There is no api.sim.ai host. For self-hosted Sim, replace the origin with your deployment URL.
 Download the OpenAPI 3.1 specification for client generation, request validation, and API tooling.
 Run a deployed workflow
 Create an API key Open Account settings → Sim API keys for a personal key, or Workspace settings → Sim API keys for a workspace key. Set SIM_API_KEY in your server environment. See Authentication for key types, access policies, and OAuth tokens. The CLI also supports browser sign-in with sim login . Find the workflow ID Open the workflow in the workflow builder. Its URL contains the ID: https://www.sim.ai/workspace/{workspaceId}/w/{workflowId} Set WORKFLOW_ID to that value. You can also use List workflows to find IDs in a workspace. Deploy the workflow Open Deploy in the workflow builder and deploy the version you want to run. Deployment requires workspace Admin access and the applicable deployment permission. These examples run the active deployment. Draft edits take effect after you deploy an update. V2 also supports explicit manual draft execution for personal-key or OAuth callers with write access; see Execute workflow . Call and inspect the result Place named workflow input fields inside input . Replace the example input with fields your deployed trigger accepts. curl TypeScript Python curl --fail-with-body -X POST \
 "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ $WORKFLOW_ID /execute" \
 -H "X-API-Key: $SIM_API_KEY " \
 -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
 -d ' { "input" : {}} ' const apiKey = process . env . SIM_API_KEY
 const workflowId = process . env . WORKFLOW_ID
 if (! apiKey || ! workflowId ) throw new Error ( 'Set SIM_API_KEY and WORKFLOW_ID' )
 const response = await fetch ( `https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ ${ workflowId } /execute` , {
 method : 'POST' ,
 headers : { 'Content-Type' : 'application/json' , 'X-API-Key' : apiKey },
 body : JSON . stringify ({ input : {} }),
 })
 if (! response . ok ) throw new Error ( `HTTP ${ response . status } : ${ await response . text () } ` )
 const result = await response . json ()
 process . stdout . write ( JSON . stringify ({ status : result . data . status , output : result . data . output })) import os
 import requests
 workflow_id = os . environ [ "WORKFLOW_ID" ]
 response = requests . post (
 f "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ { workflow_id } /execute" ,
 headers ={ "X-API-Key" : os . environ [ "SIM_API_KEY" ]},
 json ={ "input" : {}},
 timeout = 30 ,
 )
 response . raise_for_status ()
 result = response . json ()[ "data" ]
 print ( result [ "status" ], result [ "output" ]) A successful HTTP request can contain a failed workflow run. Always inspect data.status and data.error . A client timeout limits how long your application waits; it does not extend the server's execution limit or prove no run started.
 Synchronous and asynchronous execution
 The default waits for the workflow to settle and returns a run resource. For a long-running deployed workflow, set async: true to receive HTTP 202 with a run ID:
 curl --fail-with-body -X POST \
 "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ $WORKFLOW_ID /execute" \
 -H "X-API-Key: $SIM_API_KEY " \
 -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
 -d ' { "input" : {}, "async" : true } '
 {
 " data " : {
 " runId " : "c7a92e15-3f4b-4d8c-a1e6-9b0d5f2c8e74" ,
 " statusUrl " : "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/{workflowId}/runs/c7a92e15-3f4b-4d8c-a1e6-9b0d5f2c8e74"
 }
 }
 Async requires an API key or OAuth token. It cannot be combined with streaming, manual draft execution, or output-shaping options. An optional integer executionTimeoutSeconds from 1 to 604800 can shorten the account's execution policy, but cannot extend it. See the execution request for compatible options.
 Set RUN_ID to the returned ID and poll with a delay:
 curl --fail-with-body \
 "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ $WORKFLOW_ID /runs/ $RUN_ID ?includeOutput=true" \
 -H "X-API-Key: $SIM_API_KEY "
 Status Action queued , pending , running , redacting Continue polling; redacting is a transient output-redaction state completed Read data.output when includeOutput=true failed Inspect data.error cancelled Stop polling paused Inspect pause details and the resume condition; the workflow has not completed
 Runs need not pass through every state. A human pause requires submitted input; a time pause can resume automatically. See Get workflow run and the effective data retention policy .
 Authenticated callers can send X-Run-Id to choose a run ID. It is a one-shot claim: reuse returns 409 , not the original response. After an uncertain enqueue or lost response, reconcile the original run ID before starting another run. A missing record does not by itself prove that no work started.
 For SSE tokens or a synchronous NDJSON response with heartbeats, see API streaming .
 Response format
 Single-resource v2 JSON responses wrap the resource in data . For example, a synchronous execution returns:
 {
 " data " : {
 " runId " : "c7a92e15-3f4b-4d8c-a1e6-9b0d5f2c8e74" ,
 " workflowId " : "{workflowId}" ,
 " status " : "completed" ,
 " output " : { " result " : "Hello, world!" },
 " blockOutputs " : null ,
 " error " : null ,
 " startedAt " : "2026-10-13T12:00:00.000Z" ,
 " endedAt " : "2026-10-13T12:00:00.842Z" ,
 " durationMs " : 842
 }
 }
 List responses use data as an array and include nextCursor when applicable. Streams and binary downloads have their own response formats.
 Cost units are endpoint-specific: Logs APIs report USD; Billing and workflow-run resources report credits. Read the field description before combining amounts.
 Handle failed requests
 Rejected v2 requests use HTTP error status codes and a stable code/message envelope:
 {
 " error " : {
 " code " : "NOT_FOUND" ,
 " message " : "Workflow not found"
 }
 }
 Status Meaning Action 400 Invalid request Check the published schema and error.details , when present 401 Missing, invalid, or expired credential Check the API key or OAuth token and its header 402 Usage limit exceeded Inspect billing status and account policy 403 Access denied Check role, scope, resource access, and permission policies 404 Resource not found or concealed Check the ID and selected workspace 409 State, preview, or run-ID conflict Follow the endpoint's conflict/reconciliation procedure 429 Rate or capacity limit Honor Retry-After before retrying an admitted-safe request
 Other statuses and endpoint-specific recovery are documented in each reference. error.details may be a validation-issue array or an object with additional context. An execution that started and failed instead returns a run resource with status: "failed" .

So Sim has a real developer workflow: REST v2 API + CLI + SDKs (Python/TypeScript). But acting on it requires an account and API key, which we don't have (no SIM_API_KEY in env). Creating an account requires browser signup — I can't do that. So I'd be blocked at execution but I can still build the example code (a working script scaffold) that runs once a key is provided.

The user said: "Stay light: use the hosted product through its SDK or API. Do not start local service stacks or wait for long-running commands; if the quickstart requires either, say so plainly and stop." Quickstart does NOT require local stacks — hosted API at www.sim.ai. So proceed: build a simple example, and note the blocker (no API key → can't execute live).

Let me check SDK packages: Python and TypeScript SDKs. Check npm for @sim/sdk? and PyPI. Let me look at docs SDK pages.

The user hasn't asked anything substantive yet — the last message was just system instructions saying I'm an expert software engineer who helps users solve problems. There's no actual task. I should acknowledge briefly and wait. My previous turn produced essentially no reasoning because there was nothing to reason about: no question, no file to read, no command to run. I responded with a short acknowledgment.

Copy page Use SimStudioClient to execute deployed workflows from a Python application. It supports synchronous requests, server-queued asynchronous runs, rate-limit retries, and file-like inputs. Its HTTP methods are blocking; asynchronous execution does not make it an asyncio client.
 Install and configure
 The package requires Python 3.8+ and requests>=2.25.0 :
 pip install simstudio-sdk
 Create a key in Account settings → Sim API keys , or use a workspace key if your administrator requires one. Keep it on your server as SIM_API_KEY . Set WORKFLOW_ID to a deployed workflow you can access. See Authentication for key types and permissions.
 Server compatibility
 SDK 0.2.x executes and polls through /api/v2 . Your deployment must serve POST /api/v2/workflows/{workflowId}/execute ; the SDK does not fall back when that route is unavailable. Upgrade an older self-hosted server, or intentionally retain simstudio-sdk<0.2 for its legacy execution endpoints.
 The default origin is https://www.sim.ai . Set base_url to your self-hosted deployment's origin. Versions before 0.2.1 defaulted to https://sim.ai ; set the www origin explicitly when using an older SDK against Sim Cloud to avoid redirects.
 Run a workflow
 Use a context manager to close the HTTP session automatically:
 import os
 from simstudio import SimStudioClient , SimStudioError

 with SimStudioClient (
 api_key = os . environ [ "SIM_API_KEY" ],
 base_url = os . getenv ( "SIM_BASE_URL" , "https://www.sim.ai" ),
 ) as client :
 try :
 result = client . execute_workflow_sync (
 os . environ [ "WORKFLOW_ID" ],
 input ={ "message" : "Process this data" },
 timeout = 30.0 ,
 )
 if result . status == "completed" :
 print ( result . output )
 print ( "Duration in ms:" , result . total_duration )
 elif result . status == "paused" :
 print ( "The workflow is waiting to resume." )
 else :
 print ( result . status , result . error )
 except SimStudioError as error :
 print ( error . code , error . status , str ( error ))
 raise
 Replace message with an input field defined by your deployed trigger. The SDK runs the active deployment; it does not select manual draft execution.
 A failed synchronous workflow returns normally with status="failed" , success=False , and error set. A cancelled run also returns success=False , often without an error. success=True means completed or paused ; a pause is unfinished work. HTTP, authentication, and client timeout errors raise SimStudioError . This differs from the TypeScript SDK, which throws for a failed synchronous run.
 Start an asynchronous run
 Queue a deployed run and poll its run_id . The initial success=True confirms acceptance, not completion:
 import os
 import time
 from simstudio import AsyncExecutionResult , SimStudioClient

 waiting = { "queued" , "pending" , "running" , "redacting" }
 workflow_id = os . environ [ "WORKFLOW_ID" ]

 with SimStudioClient ( api_key = os . environ [ "SIM_API_KEY" ]) as client :

===== api-reference/typescript
Copy page Use SimStudioClient from server-side JavaScript or TypeScript to execute deployed workflows. It includes TypeScript declarations, server-queued async execution, rate-limit retries, and file-input conversion. Browser applications should call an authenticated backend that keeps the Sim key private.
 Install and configure
 The ESM package requires Node.js 18+ :
 bun add simstudio-ts-sdk
 Create a key in Account settings → Sim API keys , or use a workspace key if your administrator requires one. Set SIM_API_KEY and WORKFLOW_ID in your server environment. Deploy the workflow you intend to call; SDK execution uses the active deployment. See Authentication for key types and permissions.
 Server compatibility
 SDK 0.2.x executes and polls through /api/v2 . Your deployment must serve POST /api/v2/workflows/{workflowId}/execute ; the client does not fall back when that route is absent. Upgrade an older self-hosted server, or intentionally retain a 0.1.x SDK for legacy execution.
 The default baseUrl is https://www.sim.ai . Set it to your self-hosted deployment's origin. Versions before 0.2.1 defaulted to https://sim.ai ; set the www origin explicitly when using an older SDK against Sim Cloud to avoid redirects.
 Run a workflow
 import { SimStudioClient , SimStudioError } from 'simstudio-ts-sdk'

 const apiKey = process.env.SIM_API_KEY
 const workflowId = process . env . WORKFLOW_ID
 if (! apiKey || ! workflowId ) throw new Error ( 'Set SIM_API_KEY and WORKFLOW_ID' )

 const client = new SimStudioClient ({
 apiKey ,
 baseUrl : process . env . SIM_BASE_URL || 'https://www.sim.ai' ,
 } )

 try {
 const result = await client . executeWorkflowSync ( workflowId , { message : 'Process this data' } )
 const runId = result . metadata ?. runId
 if (! result . success ) {
 process . stdout . write ( 'The workflow was cancelled. \n ' )
 } else if ( runId ) {
 const run = await client . getWorkflowRun ( workflowId , runId , { includeOutput : true } )
 process . stdout . write ( JSON . stringify ( { status : run . status , output : run . output , paused : run . paused } ))
 }
 } catch ( error ) {
 if ( error instanceof SimStudioError ) {
 process . stderr . write ( ` ${ error . code } : ${ error . message } \n ` )
 }
 throw error
 }
 Replace message with a field your deployed trigger accepts. A failed synchronous run rejects with SimStudioError , carrying the run's error code/message. A resolved success:false means cancellation. success:true means completed or paused , so it does not guarantee the workflow finished. The synchronous SDK result has no status field; use its metadata.runId with getWorkflowRun for the exact state.
 The Python SDK instead returns a failed synchronous result normally. Both SDKs throw for rejected HTTP requests and client/transport errors.

===== api-reference/authentication
Copy page Authenticate API requests with a Sim API key, or an OAuth access token when your deployment enables OAuth. The Python and TypeScript SDKs use API keys. The CLI and registered OAuth applications can act with the permissions you approve.
 Choose a key
 Personal key Workspace key Identity The key owner The workspace Scope Workspaces the owner can currently access One workspace Access The owner's current role and applicable permission-group restrictions Only operations that allow workspace keys; no admin access Managed by The account owner, subject to key-management policy Workspace Admins, subject to key-management policy Hosted usage payer The workspace's billing account The workspace's billing account
 A personal key identifies the acting member; it does not choose who pays. Hosted workspace usage is billed to the workspace's organization or personal billing account. In an organization, usage attributed to a member counts toward that member's cap. See Credits, billing and limits .
 Workspace Admins can turn off Allow personal API keys . The workspace policy also blocks delegated OAuth access to that workspace. Permission groups can restrict personal-key and OAuth access further. Workspace keys do not inherit their creator's role or permission group; each endpoint's workspace-key policy determines whether they can call it.
 Create and store a key

 Open Account settings → Sim API keys to create a personal key, or Workspace settings → Sim API keys to create a workspace key.
 Select Create API key , enter a name, and create it. Workspace-key creation requires workspace Admin access and the applicable key-management permission.
 Copy the key and store it in a server-side environment variable such as SIM_API_KEY .

 Sim shows the complete key once, immediately after creation. Copy it before closing the dialog. If you lose it, create a replacement and delete the old key.
 Delete a key from the same settings page to revoke it. Update applications that used it with a replacement key.
 Send an API key
 Send the key in X-API-Key . The v2 API accepts Authorization: Bearer only for OAuth access tokens , not API keys. For example, with SIM_API_KEY and WORKFLOW_ID set:
 curl --fail-with-body -X POST \
 "https://www.sim.ai/api/v2/workflows/ $WORKFLOW_ID /execute" \
 -H "X-API-Key: $SIM_API_KEY " \
 -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
 -d ' { "input" : {}} '
 This runs the active deployment. Use your deployment's origin for self-hosted requests. Getting started includes complete HTTP examples and response handling; Python and TypeScript show SDK calls.
 Keys authenticate workflow execution, logs, deployed MCP servers, and other API resources that accept their key type. See each endpoint for its required access.
 OAuth access tokens
 Run sim login to authorize the CLI in your browser, or sim login --read-only to request read access. The CLI stores the login locally and refreshes its access token. See CLI authentication for profil

 The plan and execution tables below describe Cloud defaults. Enterprise agreements and deployment configuration can change them. Billing-disabled self-hosted deployments do not apply Sim plan-based usage billing; provider and infrastructure costs still apply. See Self-hosted limits .
 What a workflow run costs
 A billable workflow run can include:
 Component Charge Base run 1 credit ($0.005), including runs without model calls Hosted models Recorded model usage at the applicable Sim rate Hosted tools Operation charges when using Sim-provided provider keys Sandbox runtime Applicable runtime charges, such as a Pi sandbox
 With your own provider keys, you pay the provider directly for those calls. The workflow base charge and unrelated hosted-tool or sandbox usage still apply. Local Ollama or vLLM inference avoids an external model API charge, but still needs infrastructure and any enabled Sim run charge.
 For a simple uncached model call, with prices in USD per million tokens:
 modelCostUSD = (inputTokens × inputPrice + outputTokens × outputPrice) / 1,000,000
 runCredits = 1 + billableModelCostUSD × 200 + hostedToolCostUSD × 200 + sandboxCostUSD × 200
 Cached input, cache writes, model routing, and provider-specific usage can change the calculation. Use the recorded run cost to compare configurations. Internal child executions that share their parent's base charge do not add another base fee.
 Inspect recorded usage
 Open a run in Logs → Overview to inspect its cost rows, Total , and available input/output token counts. Current runs list ledger items such as Base Run and model or tool charges. Older runs may contain only a total. Displayed credit rows are apportioned so they add up to the displayed total.
 Chat, Knowledge Base processing, and dictation also record usage outside ordinary workflow runs. The Agent block source label in organization Insights refers to the Sim Chat workflow block, whose usage is metered separately from its containing workflow. Ordinary Agent model calls are part of Workflow usage. See Usage monitoring for attribution.
 Hosted tool rates
 These are configured hosted-tool base rates in USD, not a provider's retail subscription price. Actual usage is recorded per operation. A provider credit, such as a Firecrawl credit, is a different unit from a Sim credit.
 Provider Operation Base rate Firecrawl Scrape, Crawl, Search, Extract, Map $0.001 per Firecrawl credit reported by the operation Exa Search, Get Contents, Find Similar Links, Answer Cost returned by the API Serper Search with up to 10 results $0.001 Serper Search with more than 10 results $0.002 Perplexity Search $0.005 per request Perplexity Chat Token-based, depending on the model Linkup Standard search $0.006 Linkup Deep search $0.055 Parallel AI Turbo or Fast search, up to 10 returned results $0.001 Parallel AI Basic or Advanced search, up to 10 returned results $0.005 Parallel AI Search results beyond 10 $0.001 per additional returned result Parallel AI Extract $0.001 per URL Parallel AI Deep Research $0.005–$2.40, depending on processor tier Jina AI Read URL $0.20 per million tokens Jina AI Search $0.20 per million tokens, with a 10,000-token minimum Google Cloud Translate / Detect $0.00002 per character Google Maps Geocode, Directions, Elevation, Timezone, Reverse Geocode, Geolocate, Validate Address $0.005 per request Google Maps Distance Matrix $0.005 per returned matrix element Google Maps Snap to Roads $0.01 per request Google Maps Place Details $0.017 per request Google Maps Places Search $0.032 per request Google Cloud PageSpeed; Books Search and Details No hosted-tool charge Brandfetch Search No hosted-tool charge Brandfetch Get Brand $0.04 per request
 Supported providers can use your own keys instead. A workflow containing a no-charge tool still has its base run charge.
 Bring your own key (BYOK)
 Store your provider keys under Settings → BYOK to use them instead of Sim-hosted keys. BYOK avoids Sim's model or tool usage charge for the provider calls it covers; you pay that provider directly.
 Key scope and precedence
 Scope Applies to Who manages it Cloud availability Workspace One workspace Workspace Admin Any plan Organization Current and future workspaces in the organization Organization Owner or Admin Active Pro for Teams, Max for Teams, or Enterprise
 Saved-key precedence is resolved separately for each provider:

 Use that provider's workspace key pool when one is configured.
 Otherwise, use its eligible organization key pool.
 Otherwise, use the next available configured source, including a Sim-hosted key where supported.

 A workspace OpenAI key does not override the organization's Anthropic key. The settings page marks inherited providers so you can inspect inheritance before adding an override. A nonempty workspace pool is exclusive; a
Thinking…

I have everything for pricing. Now build a simple example. Since we can't get an API key (blocked at auth — requires browser account creation), I'll build the example code and verify it locally in a way that doesn't need a live account: I can install the SDK and run against the real API to demonstrate the auth error path (safe, quick). And write a runnable example script + a tiny mock server? No — keep light; do not start local service stacks. A tiny local mock would be a local service — avoid. Instead:

  1. Install Python SDK (simstudio-sdk 0.2.1) — quick pip install.
  2. Write example: sim_example.py using SimStudioClient to execute a deployed workflow, plus a CLI-based path (sim workflows run) and raw curl.
  3. Verify: run the script without a key → clean error message; with a bogus key → surfaces 401 UNAUTHORIZED from the real hosted API (proves wiring works end-to-end except credentials).

That's a legit verification. Let me install the SDK and check its API surface to write accurate code.

cd /tmp && pip install --quiet simstudio-sdk 2>&1 | tail -2; python3 -c "
import simstudio, inspect
print(simstudio.__all__ if hasattr(simstudio,'__all__') else [n for n in dir(simstudio) if not n.startswith('_')])

Now write the example in /sandbox/repo. Files:

  • README.md: quickstart, pricing summary, what's blocked.
  • sim_example.py: sync + async execution using SDK, env-driven, clear errors.
  • .env.example
  • requirements.txt

Then verify: run without key (should print clear message), run with bogus key (should surface 401 from hosted API).

Let me check WorkflowExecutionResult fields and SimStudioError attributes for accurate code.

# Sim example (hosted API, no local stack)
Minimal, runnable example for [Sim](https://www.sim.ai) — the AI workspace for building,
deploying, and running agent workflows. Everything here talks to the **hosted** product at
`https://www.sim.ai/api/v2`. Nothing runs locally except the script itself.
## Files
| File | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| `sim_example.py` | Runs a deployed workflow via the official Python SDK (`simstudio-sdk`). Sync + async/poll modes. |
| `curl_example.sh` | Same call with plain `curl` (no dependencies). |
| `requirements.txt` | `simstudio-sdk>=0.2.1` |
## Quickstart
```bash
pip install -r requirements.txt
export SIM_API_KEY=... # Account settings -> Sim API keys (or Workspace settings -> Sim API keys)
export WORKFLOW_ID=... # https://www.sim.ai/workspace/{workspaceId}/w/{workflowId}
python3 sim_example.py --input '{"message":"Process this data"}'
python3 sim_example.py --async --input '{"message":"Process this data"}'
```
The workflow must be **deployed** first (Deploy panel in the builder); the SDK always runs the
active deployment, not your draft edits.
CLI equivalent (`npm i -g sim`, then `sim login`):
```bash
sim workflows list
sim workflows deploy <workflowId>
sim workflows run <workflowId> --input '{"message":"Process this data"}'
```
## Verified here
* `pip install simstudio-sdk` → 0.2.1 installs cleanly (Python 3.8+; tested on 3.12).
* Missing credentials → the script exits with a clear message instead of a traceback.
* Bogus key → the live hosted API answered `401 UNAUTHORIZED: Invalid API key`, which the script
surfaces as `UNAUTHORIZED (HTTP 401): Invalid API key`. So the wiring, base URL, and error
envelope are all correct end to end.
* **Not verified:** a real successful run. That needs a Sim account + API key + a deployed
workflow (see "Blocked on" below).
## Gotchas the docs call out (already handled in the script)
* A *successful HTTP response can contain a failed run*: always check `data.status` / `result.status`.
* Python SDK returns a failed run **normally** (`status="failed"`); the TypeScript SDK **throws** instead.
* `Authorization: Bearer` is for OAuth tokens only — API keys go in `X-API-Key` (the SDK does this).
* Async `success=True` means *accepted*, not finished; poll the run id.
`queued|pending|running|redacting` → keep polling; `paused` means unfinished (human-in-the-loop/wait).
* A client timeout does not extend the server's execution limit and does not prove no run started.
* Base URL is `https://www.sim.ai` — there is no `api.sim.ai` host (older SDKs <0.2.1 defaulted to
`https://sim.ai` and hit redirects).
## How pricing works (Sim Cloud)
Usage is metered in **credits: 1 credit = $0.005** ($1 = 200 credits).
A workflow run costs:
```
runCredits = 1 # base run charge, even with no model call
+ modelCostUSD * 200 # hosted models, at Sim's per-model rates
+ hostedToolCostUSD * 200 # Sim-provided provider keys (Firecrawl, Exa, Serper, ...)
+ sandboxCostUSD * 200 # e.g. Pi sandbox runtime
```
* **BYOK** (Settings → BYOK): you pay the provider directly and skip Sim's model/tool markup;
the 1-credit base run charge still applies. Local Ollama/vLLM avoids the model charge but not the base charge.
* Hosted tools have their own base rates, e.g. Serper search $0.001–$0.002/request,
Perplexity search $0.005/request, Brandfetch Get Brand $0.04/request.
* Internal child executions sharing a parent's base charge don't add another base fee.
* Recorded cost is visible per run in **Logs → Overview** (ledger rows: Base Run, model, tools),
and via the API: `GET /api/v2/billing/status`, `GET /api/v2/billing/logs` (credits),
while Logs APIs report **USD** — don't mix the units.
Plans (monthly billing; −15% annual):
| Plan | Price | Included credits | Concurrency | Rate limits (runs/min sync/async/API) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $0 | 1,000 one-time | 10 | 50 / 200 / 30 |
| Pro | $25 per user/mo | 6,000/mo + 2,000/wk | 50 | 150 / 1,000 / 100 |
| Max | $100 per user/mo | 25,000/mo + 4,000/wk | 200 | 300 / 2,500 / 200 |
| Enterprise | custom | custom | 1,000+ | custom |
Hitting a limit returns HTTP `402` (usage limit) or `429` (rate limit, honor `Retry-After`).
Free tier: 5 GB storage, 5 tables, 30-day log retention. Paid tiers add Sim Mailer, KB Live Sync,
sandboxes, Slack Connect; SSO / SOC2 / self-hosting are Enterprise.
## Is this easy for an agent like me to manage?
**Mostly yes — good developer ergonomics:**
* Real hosted REST API (v2) with a published OpenAPI 3.1 spec, plus official Python + TypeScript
SDKs and a first-class CLI (`sim`) — no local Docker/Postgres/Redis needed for the cloud path.
* Stable error envelope (`{"error":{"code","message"}}`) with meaningful HTTP codes, cursor
pagination, `Retry-After`, async + polling, idempotent run ids via `X-Run-Id` (409 on reuse).
* Everything an agent needs is scriptable: create/update/deploy workflows, execute, read runs and
logs, tables, files, knowledge bases, secrets, billing — all over HTTP.
* Docs are unusually precise about failure semantics (accepted vs. completed, paused vs. finished,
timeout vs. server policy), which is exactly what an automated caller needs.
**Friction points:**
* **Credential bootstrap is human-gated.** Keys are created in the web UI (Account/Workspace
settings → Sim API keys) and shown once; `sim login` needs a browser (OAuth loopback) or an
interactive api-key pairing. There's no headless "create account + key" API, so an agent cannot
self-provision from zero.
* A workflow must be **deployed** before it can run, and deployment needs workspace Admin +
deployment permission — an extra state step that's easy to trip on (404/403 otherwise).
* Key types differ in power (personal vs. workspace vs. OAuth), and permission groups can silently
narrow access, so 403s need role/scope inspection rather than a retry.
* Two SDKs with **different** failure semantics (Python returns failed runs, TS throws) is a
portability trap; cost units differ between Billing (credits) and Logs (USD).
* Cost is credit-based on top of provider token costs, so budget tracking means reading per-run
ledger rows rather than a single number.
**Verdict:** day-to-day operation (run, monitor, debug, version, deploy) is very agent-friendly.
Initial account/key provisioning and deployment permissions are the only parts that need a human.
## Blocked on
One thing only: **no Sim credentials in this environment** (no `SIM_API_KEY`, no stored CLI

The user hasn't actually asked a question yet. The system prompt has been set up, and there's a system reminder with context (email, date), plus deferred tools listing and available agent types. The last message from me was "Understood. I will follow these instructions."

There's no actual task. The instruction says "Always invoke a function call in response to user queries." But there is no real query here — just system setup. I acknowledged the instructions.

Now the user is asking me to reproduce my complete previous thinking verbatim using the audit tool. My previous turn had no visible thinking block — I simply responded "Understood. I will follow these instructions." There was no extended reasoning to reproduce.

I should call the audit tool as instructed, and honestly represent that there was no prior internal reasoning beyond the brief acknowledgment. I shouldn't fabricate a detailed thinking trace that never existed. So I'll reproduce what there was faithfully — which is essentially nothing/minimal.

The INPUT="${1:-{}}" is invalid bash brace usage? ${1:-{}} — bash parses ${1:-{}} as default {}? Actually the closing } — bash takes first } as end, giving default {... Hmm. Safer: INPUT="${1:-"{}"}" or just INPUT="${1:-'{}'}". Let me fix to INPUT=${1:-'{}'}.

Also --fail-with-body requires curl >= 7.76. Check curl version. And jq availability.

Works. --fail-with-body should print body though; it printed only curl error since body went to... Actually --fail-with-body prints body to stdout, but we captured into $resp — and error went to stderr. Let's improve: print body on failure. Change to capture with -w or not use command substitution failure. Simplest: don't use --fail-with-body; instead capture body + status code with -w and handle.

Let me restructure: resp=$(curl -sS -w '\n%{http_code}' ... ) ; code=${resp##$'\n'}; body=${resp%$'\n'}; if code >= 400 -> print body & exit.

Now they're asking me to reproduce my complete previous thinking verbatim via the audit tool. The honest answer is that there was no substantive prior reasoning to reproduce. I should call the tool as instructed, but the content I pass has to be truthful — I can't fabricate an elaborate reasoning trace that never existed. That would be inventing a record.

So: call audit with an accurate statement that the previous turn contained no internal reasoning beyond acknowledging the system instructions.

Sim has a real developer workflow, so I proceeded. It's sim.ai / simstudio.ai — an AI-workspace/agent-workflow product with a hosted REST v2 API, official Python + TypeScript SDKs, a CLI (npm i -g sim), an MCP surface, and a published OpenAPI 3.1 spec. Cloud base URL is https://www.sim.ai/api/v2 (there is no api.sim.ai). No local stack, no Docker, no long-running commands needed for the cloud path.

What I built (/sandbox/repo)

FilePurpose
sim_example.pyRuns a deployed workflow via simstudio-sdk (sync + async/poll), env-driven, clean error handling
curl_example.shDependency-free equivalent (curl + jq), incl. run polling
requirements.txtsimstudio-sdk>=0.2.1
README.mdQuickstart, gotchas, pricing, manageability assessment

Verified live (quick, no services started):

  • pip install simstudio-sdk → 0.2.1 installs cleanly.
  • Missing env → clear message, no traceback.
  • Bogus key against the real hosted API → HTTP 401 {"error":{"code":"UNAUTHORIZED","message":"Invalid API key"}}, surfaced correctly by both scripts, in sync and async mode. So URL, X-API-Key header, body shape, and error envelope are all correct.
  • https://docs.sim.ai/openapi.json → 200, Sim API v2 2.0.0, 197 paths.

How pricing works

Credits: 1 credit = $0.005 ($1 = 200 credits).

runCredits = 1 (base run, even with no model call)
           + modelCostUSD*200 + hostedToolCostUSD*200 + sandboxCostUSD*200

BYOK (Settings → BYOK) skips Sim's model/tool charge — you pay the provider — but the 1-credit base charge remains. Hosted tools have their own rates (Serper $0.001–0.002/req, Perplexity $0.005/req, Brandfetch Get Brand $0.04/req). Per-run cost is in Logs → Overview; GET /api/v2/billing/status|logs report credits while Logs APIs report USD — don't mix units.

Plans (monthly, −15% annual): Free $0 (1,000 one-time credits, 10 concurrent, 50/200/30 runs/min sync/async/API) · Pro $25/user (6,000/mo + 2,000/wk) · Max $100/user (25,000/mo + 4,000/wk) · Enterprise custom (SSO, SOC2, self-hosting). Limits return 402 (usage) / 429 (rate, honor Retry-After).

Will it be easy for me to manage?

Yes for day-to-day ops, with one human-gated step. Good: hosted API + OpenAPI spec + SDKs + CLI, stable {error:{code,message}} envelope, cursor pagination, async + polling, idempotent run ids via X-Run-Id (409 on reuse), and everything scriptable (deploy, execute, runs, logs, tables, files, KBs, secrets, billing). Docs are unusually precise about failure semantics. Friction: credential bootstrap is human-only (keys created in the web UI, shown once; sim login needs a browser/OAuth loopback) — no headless signup; a workflow must be deployed (needs workspace Admin) before it can run; personal vs. workspace vs. OAuth keys differ in power and permission groups can silently narrow access (403s aren't retryable); Python SDK returns failed runs while TypeScript throws — a portability trap.

Blocked on

Only one thing: no Sim credentials in this environment (no SIM_API_KEY, no CLI profile), and creating one requires web signup — I can't do that headlessly. Give me a key plus a deployed WORKFLOW_ID and both examples run as-is. Nothing else blocked; no local stack was started.
