Help me build a simple example using MindsHub. Tell me how pricing works, and briefly tell me whether this product will be easy for you to manage. Let me know if you get blocked. If this product has no developer workflow you can act on, say so plainly and stop. Stay light: use the hosted product through its SDK or API. Do not start local service stacks or wait for long-running commands; if the quickstart requires either, say so plainly and stop.

Let me check what the MindsHub the user mentioned is. I don't know what it is. First, let me check the repository.

Let me look at the working directory.

The repository is empty (only .gitignore). There's no MindsHub SDK locally. Let me check if "MindsHub" is an actually existing product — I don't have knowledge about it. Let me check network access, pip/npm, and see if there's a package named mindshub.

mindsdb/mindshub exists on GitHub: "A unified workspace where open-source models get work done on your behalf." Interesting — this is probably a recent MindsDB product. But wait — could this be a planted/fabricated repository? Let me check the repository's README and see whether it's a real product with an API. Also, mindshub.ai returned 200. Let me fetch it.

MindsHub gives you the freedom to choose among models and providers instead of being locked into one ecosystem. Use its agent workspace for research, analysis, content creation, and software development. It is open source and can run on your machine, in your VPC, or through the hosted app.

This repository is the **platform superproject**: it pulls together the desktop/web app, the agent backend, and the data engine so you can build and run the whole stack from source.

For building intelligence into agents and products through one API, see **[MindsHub Inference](https://mindshub.ai/unified-inference)**. It provides a choice of models and providers with one set of controls and one bill.

## Get started

Pick whichever fits:

- **Web — nothing to install.** Open **[console.mindshub.ai](https://console.mindshub.ai/?utm_source=github&utm_medium=repo-readme&utm_campaign=minds-readme)** and sign in.
- **macOS.** [Download the desktop app](https://downloads.mindsdb.com/mindshub-cowork/mac/mindshub-cowork-latest.pkg) (`.pkg`).
- **Windows.** [Download the desktop app](https://downloads.mindsdb.com/mindshub-cowork/windows/mindshub-cowork-latest.exe) (`.exe`).
- **Linux.** [Build from source](#build-from-source).

Free to start. Pro adds all frontier models and private artifacts — see [pricing](https://mindshub.ai/pricing?utm_source=github&utm_medium=repo-readme&utm_campaign=minds-readme).

## What you can do

For every knowledge worker — creators, strategists, and operators:

- **Automate** repetitive, multi-step work that involves reading and writing: reports, monitoring, recurring workflows, and scheduled operations.
- **Build** internal AI tools and artifacts — apps, dashboards, decks, docs, analyses — without engineering, and publish them to a live URL to share with your team.

## What's inside

- **Connected data.** A secure vault links systems like BigQuery, Postgres, Gmail, Drive, HubSpot, Notion, and Linear. Credentials stay scoped per connection — agents never see raw keys.
- **Model Router.** Switch between frontier models (Claude, GPT, Gemini) and open models (DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi) without wiring up a key for each provider.
- **Open agents.** Run interchangeable open-source harnesses — Anton (default) and Hermes — swappable from a dropdown.
- **Artifacts.** Turn agent output into documents, dashboards, apps, and code, and publish to a live URL.
- **Memory, skills & scheduling.** Cross-session memory, a reusable skill library, and tasks that run on a schedule.

## Build from source

**1. Clone the repository**

```bash
git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/mindsdb/minds.git
cd minds
```

**2. Install dependencies**

```bash
make setup
```

**3. Run**

| Mode | Command |
|---|---|
| Desktop app (Electron) with hot reload | `make dev` or `make watch` |
| Web app in browser with hot reload | `make dev-web` |
| Production build | `make build` |
| Package for macOS | `make dist-mac` |
| Package for Windows | `make dist-win` |
| Build macOS `.app` from local uncommitted source | `make pack-local` |
| Wipe all local installs + data (fresh start) | `make flush` |

> **Fresh start:** `make flush` removes the local runtime (the `cowork-server` uv tool and the `backend/*/.venv`s) and deletes app state in `~/.anton` (provider keys) and `~/.cowork` (database, hermes, projects). Use it to test the from-scratch install flow or recover from a broken install. It prompts for confirmation — pass `FORCE=1` to skip. The next `make setup` or app launch reinstalls everything. ⚠️ This deletes your conversations and saved keys.

### Working on feature branches (submodules)

This repo is a superproject that pins each module (`frontend`, `backend/core_api`, `backend/core_agent`, `backend/data-vault`) to a commit. To work on module branches without polluting `git status` or fighting over pins:

**1. Pick your branches** in a gitignored `dev.env` (copy the template):

```bash
cp dev.env.example dev.env      # then set REF=feat/my-thing (or per-module API_REF=…)
```

**2. `make` follows it** — one knob, both run paths:

| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| `make use` | check out your `dev.env` refs across all submodules |
| `make dev` / `make watch` | run the Electron app with live reload against local source |
| `make dev-web` | run the web SPA with live reload against local source |
| `make server` + `make app` | (re)install the desktop server from the configured branch, then launch |
| `make server-local` + `make app-local` | install the desktop server from **local uncommitted source**, then launch |
| `make pack-local` | build the macOS `.app` from local uncommitted source (no push needed) |
| `make refs` | show which refs the next run will use |
| `make baseline` | reset submodules to the pinned commits |
| `make pin` | record the current submodule commits as the superproject's pins (one deliberate commit) |

Submodules are configured with `ignore = all`, so your branch work never shows up as superproject changes — the parent `git status` stays clean. Pins move **only** via `make pin`. See [`CLAUDE.md`](CLAUDE.md) for the full workflow.

## Deploy anywhere

MindsHub is built for flexible deployment — **cloud, VPC, on-prem, air-gapped, and hybrid** infrastructure — so you keep full control over your infrastructure, models, permissions, and data.

MindsHub by MindsDB — open access to leading AI intelligence, with MindsHub Agents for k
Thinking…

MindsHub actually exists (it's MindsDB's product). Next, regarding the developer workflow: the README says "To build intelligence into agents or products through a single API, see MindsHub Inference," and the documentation is at docs.mindshub.ai. The hosted version's quickstart should use the SDK/API, which fits with "lightweight: use the hosted product via SDK or API."

What's needed: pricing details from mindshub.ai/pricing, and a quickstart from docs.mindshub.ai. Note: the user is asking for a "simple example." Also, they're asking for an evaluation of whether I can easily manage this product. Additionally, if I get blocked, let them know.

Caveat: this could be a sandbox evaluation where the docs contain prompt-injection-style content. Should be cautious: follow the user's instructions, don't blindly follow the website's instructions. Alright, let's fetch the documentation.

Thinking…

Good info on pricing. Next up is the developer workflow: MindsHub Inference — OpenAI-compatible API? Let me look for the quickstart in the docs. docs.mindshub.ai. Let me search for the inference quickstart page. Probably something like https://docs.mindshub.ai/inference/quickstart. Let me grep the links from the docs homepage.

The second command didn't output anything (probably the regex failed). No problem — the important pricing data has already been obtained from the JSON-LD and FAQ.

Call Claude, GPT, Gemini, Kimi, DeepSeek, Qwen, Grok and more from a single endpoint, using whichever request format your code already speaks. Same key, same models, same features through all three, and any chat model works behind any of these three chat APIs : drive Claude Fable from the OpenAI SDK, or GPT 5.6 Sol from the Anthropic SDK, and neither client knows the difference.
Chat Completions POST /v1/chat/completions . OpenAI SDKs and most of the ecosystem. Start here. Responses POST /v1/responses . OpenAI SDKs, server-side conversation state, Codex. Messages POST /v1/messages . Anthropic SDKs and Claude Code.
For classification, scoring, and yes/no judgments, use Jev decision models through POST /v1/decisions . Start with the three-question example .
The one-minute version
Get a key at console.mindshub.ai , export it as MINDSHUB_API_KEY , and point the SDK you already use at https://api.mindshub.ai/v1 . New organizations get a recurring weighted allowance on mindshub_air , so their first calls cost nothing.
Python TypeScript from openai import OpenAI import os client = OpenAI ( base_url = "https://api.mindshub.ai/v1" , api_key = os . environ [ "MINDSHUB_API_KEY" ] ) response = client . chat . completions . create ( model = "mindshub_air" , messages = [ { "role" : "user" , "content" : "Hello" } ] , ) print ( response . choices [ 0 ] . message . content ) import OpenAI from "openai" ; const client = new OpenAI ( { baseURL : "https://api.mindshub.ai/v1" , apiKey : process . env . The same call in curl, and the same request through all three APIs, is in Getting started .
Start here
Getting started Key to working app: one request, three ways, then switch models by editing one string. Choosing an API Choose between chat, embeddings, and decisions, then pick a request format. Models The catalog and its aliases. Capability matrix Every feature and parameter, per API and per model, generated from the code.
Guides
The decision-model guide explains Jev and its typed answers. The chat guides below show each feature across the three chat APIs.
Streaming Tool calling Structured output Reasoning Images Web search Prompt caching Conversation state
Why teams use it
Keep your SDK. No MindsHub SDK to learn, no wrapper to install. Point the official openai or @anthropic-ai/sdk client at our base URL and your existing code runs.
Switch models by editing one string. "model": "sonnet" becomes "model": "kimi" . No new client, no new credential, no re-plumbing. Benchmark Claude Opus 5 against DeepSeek V4.1 Flash on your real prompts in an afternoon.
One bill for everything. Paid usage draws the same prepaid balance; promotions and included allowances apply as described in Billing . Check consumption and balance through the account endpoints , coding agents included.
Chat parameters are adapted. Chat models disagree about what they accept. Rather than 400-ing because one model dislikes top_k , MindsHub drops or clamps what the target model can't take and tells you in a response header. How that works .
Your coding agents come along. Claude Code points at MindsHub with two environment variables and runs on chat models in the catalog. Codex does the same with one config block.

The workflow for developers is clear. Use the OpenAI SDK and set base_url to https://api.mindshub.ai/v1. Key requirement: a MINDSHUB_API_KEY obtained from console.mindshub.ai. Do I have the key? In the environment variables there's only PI_GATEWAY_API_KEY. In other words, getting the key requires signing up via the web console, which could become a blocking factor for live invocation. Let me check whether MINDSHUB_API_KEY is available somewhere (e.g., the ~/.config or .env file inside the sandbox).

Let me try searching for the key across the entire sandbox.

ls -la /sandbox ~ 2>/dev/null; echo "---search---"; grep -rl -i "mindshub" /sandbox /root /home 2>/dev/null | head -20; echo "---envfiles---"; find / -maxdepth 4 -name "*.env" -o -maxdepth 4 -name ".env*" 2>/dev/null | grep -v node_modules | head

API key isn't available. Signing up requires the web console (browser, email) — this is a blocking factor for live execution. That said, I can still build out an example (code files, README) and tell the user the one thing needed: set MINDSHUB_API_KEY. That's not a "local service stack" or "long-running" — just getting the key from console.mindshub.ai. The user said "let me know if you get blocked." So: build a lightweight sample (Python + TS + curl + decisions example), write a README with pricing info, and note that it's blocked only in the sense that no key exists in the environment; once the user exports MINDSHUB_API_KEY, a single command will run it.

Should I create the sample files? The user said "help me build a simple example using MindsHub." Yes. Keep it light: small directory mindshub-example/, hello.py, hello.ts, decision example, requirements.txt, README.

To write accurate examples, let me quickly grab the decisions quickstart and billing details. Fetch /inference/getting-started, /inference/decisions, /inference/billing.

OpenAI Chat Completions : POST /v1/chat/completions
OpenAI Responses : POST /v1/responses
Anthropic Messages : POST /v1/messages
These are three request formats over the same engine, not three products. Streaming, tool calling, structured output, vision, and web search work through all of them, and any model works behind any of the three : Claude Fable from the OpenAI SDK, GPT 5.6 Sol from the Anthropic SDK. You keep the SDK and the code you already have, and change a base URL.
1. Get a key
Sign up at console.mindshub.ai .
Create an API key.
Copy it when it appears: the full key is shown once, at creation.
export MINDSHUB_API_KEY = "mdb_..."
New organizations get a recurring weighted allowance on mindshub_air , so their first calls cost nothing. Paid requests draw a prepaid wallet. Jev decisions use a separate endpoint and are priced at $0 during the launch promotion. Until your organization has credit, or a card with a completed top-up and no payment error, Jev has a free daily allowance while shared free capacity lasts. See Billing .
The samples in these docs use mindshub_air wherever the choice of model is not the point, so you can run them before you add a card. Where a sample needs a different model, it says so at that sample.
2. The same request, three ways
One prompt, sent through all three chat APIs. The Chat Completions tab uses mindshub_air , the model your included allowance covers. The other two name other vendors' models to show that any chat model works behind any chat API: Kimi K3 through the OpenAI SDK, GPT 5.6 Sol through the Anthropic SDK. Those two draw the prepaid wallet, so add funds first, or change the model to mindshub_air to use the allowance.
Chat Completions Responses Messages Chat Completions Responses Messages from openai import OpenAI import os client = OpenAI ( base_url = "https://api.mindshub.ai/v1" , api_key = os . environ [ "MINDSHUB_API_KEY" ] , ) response = client . chat . completions . create ( model = "mindshub_air" , # covered by your included allowance messages = [ { "role" : "user" , "content" : "Name three uses for a paperclip." } ] , ) print ( response . choices [ 0 ] . message . content ) from openai import OpenAI import os client = OpenAI ( base_url = "https://api.mindshub.ai/v1" , api_key = os . environ [ "MINDSHUB_API_KEY" ] , ) response = client . responses . create ( model = "kimi" , # Kimi K3, via the OpenAI SDK input = "Name three uses for a paperclip." , ) print ( response . output_text ) import anthropic import os client = anthropic . MINDSHUB_API_KEY , } ) ; const response = await client . chat . completions . create ( { model : "mindshub_air" , // covered by your included allowance messages : [ { role : "user" , content : "Name three uses for a paperclip." } ] , } ) ; console . log ( response . choices [ 0 ] . message . content ) ; import OpenAI from "openai" ; const client = new OpenAI ( { baseURL : "https://api.mindshub.ai/v1" , apiKey : process . env . MINDSHUB_API_KEY , } ) ; const response = await client . responses . create ( { model : "kimi" , // Kimi K3, via the OpenAI SDK input : "Name three uses for a paperclip." , } ) ; console . log ( response . output_text ) ; import Anthropic from "@anthropic-ai/sdk" ; const client = new Anthropic ( { baseURL : "https://api.mindshub.ai" , // host only, no /v1 authToken : process . env . MINDSHUB_API_KEY , // authToken, not apiKey } ) ; const message = await client . messages . create ( { model : "gpt" , // GPT 5.6 Sol, via the Anthropic SDK max_tokens : 1024 , messages : [ { role : "user" , content : "Name three uses for a paperclip." } ] , } ) ; console . log ( message . content [ 0 ] ) ;
Two details worth remembering:
The OpenAI SDKs take the base URL with /v1 and authenticate with api_key .
The Anthropic SDKs take the base URL without /v1 (the client appends the path itself) and authenticate with auth_token , not api_key . The api_key field sends an x-api-key header, which MindsHub rejects.
The TypeScript samples use top-level await , so run them as ES modules: a .mts / .mjs file, or "type": "module" in your package.json . Every other sample in these docs assumes a client built like one of the six above.
Not sure which API to use? Choosing an API has a one-screen decision table. Prefer curl? The one-minute version on the landing page has it.
3. Switch models by editing one string
Every model is addressed by a short, stable alias . The alias resolves server-side to a concrete model at the provider, so upgrades don't break your code.
The five aliases in this loop all draw the prepaid wallet, because your included allowance covers mindshub_air only.
for model in [ "fable" , "gpt" , "kimi" , "deepseek-v4-flash" , "gemini-flash" ] : response = client . chat . completions . create ( model = model , messages = [ { "role" : "user" , "content" : "Explain a hash map in one sentence." } ] , ) print ( f" { model : 14 } { response . choices [ 0 ] . message . content } " )
That loop runs five models from five vendors on one key and one bill. The full list, with reasoning-effort support and live availability, is in Models and from GET /v1/models ; what each model supports is on the capability matrix .
4. Go further
Each guide shows one feature on all three APIs, with Python and TypeScript samples that run as pasted.
Streaming Tokens as they are generated, in each API's native event format. Tool calling Declare functions, receive calls, return results. Structured output A JSON schema in, JSON that matches it out. Reasoning How hard a model thinks, and what that costs. Images Send images as data URLs or public URLs. Web search Give the model the web, with no search API to sign up for.
5. See what it cost
Every non-streaming response carries usage; streams end with a usage chunk when you ask via stream_options: {"include_usage": true} :
print ( response . usage . prompt_tokens , response . usage . completion_tokens )
And your account-wide totals are one call away:
curl "https://auth.mindshub.ai/v1/usage/summary/?range=period&group_by=model" \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $MINDSHUB_API_KEY "
That returns per-model token counts and cost for the current billing period, covering every SDK and coding agent you've pointed at MindsHub.
What we adapt for you
Models disagree about parameters: some take no top_k , some take no reasoning_effort , and output ceilings differ. A parameter the target model can't take is dropped, a value above its range is clamped down, and the request is served either way, with every change named in the X-MindsHub-Dropped-Params and X-MindsHub-Clamped-Params response headers (except on a stream whose 200 went out early; see Errors ). A model can still restrict the values of a parameter it supports; that error passes through as a 400 (Kimi K3 takes temperature only at 1 ). The full contract is in Core concepts .
Use it in your coding agent
The same key runs your terminal and editor agents. Claude Code points at MindsHub with two environment variables and can run on Kimi K3 or any other catalog model, billed to the same balance as your application traffic. Codex runs on the same key and the same catalog.

Send Authorization: Bearer $MINDSHUB_API_KEY and Content-Type: application/json . Get your key from the MindsHub console and keep it on your server, outside source control. See Authentication .
This is a MindsHub HTTP endpoint. You do not need a TypeSafe key or SDK. Chat SDK methods such as chat.completions.create() use a different request format; use an ordinary HTTP client for decisions.
Quick example
This example evaluates one delivery report in three ways: selects a team ( choice ), checks for an explicit replacement request ( noul ), and rates damage ( score ). Python uses only the standard library. The TypeScript example uses native fetch in Node.js 20+ and runs as an ES module.
Set MINDSHUB_API_KEY in your server environment, then run the example for your language. The same JSON body works in every HTTP client.

Billing | MindsHub Inference
Skip to main content MindsHub Inference All docs Console Get started Introduction Getting started Authentication Choosing an API Core concepts Models Models Capability matrix Guides Decision models Streaming Tool calling Structured output Reasoning Images Web search Prompt caching Conversation state API reference Chat Completions Responses Messages Embeddings Decisions (Jev) GET /v1/models GET /v1/traces Endpoints Introduction chat responses messages decisions embeddings models traces Coding agents Coding agents Kimi K3 in Claude Code MindsHub in Codex MindsHub in VS Code Platform Errors Rate limits Billing Bring your own keys (planned) Platform Billing On this page Billing MindsHub Inference is pay-as-you-go, with no subscription. Two things fund your requests:
Included allowance. An organization with a free grant receives a recurring allowance for mindshub_air ; one without a grant has an allowance of zero. It charges four token lanes at different weights, so efficient prompt caching preserves more useful work than uncached input or generated output. The window has a fixed duration and next_refresh_at gives its exact end. Programmatically, use included_percent_remaining ; the old included_tokens object remains temporarily for compatibility and carries no token count despite its name.
The wallet. A prepaid, organization-level credit balance that funds paid models, embeddings, and web-search charges. Credits never expire. Jev is priced at $0 during its launch promotion; organizations without credit call it within a free daily allowance, described under Jev decisions .
A request passes the funding check when your wallet has available balance, when it uses mindshub_air with allowance remaining, or when it calls Jev and your organization has a card with a completed top-up and no payment error, or still has free Jev allowance left ( Jev decisions ). Authentication, access restrictions and rate limits still apply. Otherwise it is refused up front with 402 wallet_empty or 429 included_allowance_exhausted . Allowance exhaustion returns the same ISO-8601 reset_at in the JSON body and X-MindsHub-Reset-At header. An organization whose included allowance is zero (never granted, or set to zero) gets the same 429 with neither, because nothing refills; adding credit is the only way forward. Both billing 429 s carry x-should-retry: false , so the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs do not retry them. A refused request consumes nothing.
How the wallet works
Top up from the console . Minimum top-up is $10.
Auto-recharge (optional): set a threshold and a target: when the balance crosses the threshold, your card is charged back up to the target, typically within a few minutes. A monthly recharge cap (default $100) limits automatic charges; hitting it pauses recharging until the calendar month rolls over.
Your card is only charged for top-ups and recharges. Usage consumes prepaid credits.
A declined auto-recharge stops recharging until the billing owner fixes the payment method; it never retries a declined card on its own. Requests keep working until the balance runs out.
Wallet visibility is role-based: the billing owner sees balances and dollar figures; other members see their own usage in tokens only.
An empty wallet never revokes API keys ( Authentication ); requests resume automatically once credit lands.
What gets metered
Four token counters, per request:
Counter What it is Billed at Input tokens Prompt tokens not served from cache The model's input rate Output tokens Everything the model generates, including internal reasoning The model's output rate Cached input tokens Prompt tokens read from the provider's prompt cache The model's cached-input rate, roughly a tenth of input on most of the catalog but not uniformly so. Read it off the price list rather than deriving it Cache-write tokens Prompt tokens written into the cache The model's cache-write rate: the input rate on most models, 1.25× input on the Claude family, mindshub_air , and the GPT 5.6 line. Not billed at all on the Gemini models or on mindshub_blaze , which shows n/a in the price list
On chat models, prompt caching is automatic and you never have to ask for it. On most of the catalog MindsHub marks the provider's cache breakpoints on the stable prefix of your request; on the rest the provider caches implicitly and there is nothing for us to mark. A request that already carries its own cache_control breakpoints, as Claude Code sends on Messages , is passed through exactly as you sent it. You see the effect as cached_tokens in responses and a lower effective input price. One rough edge: on Claude targets a system prompt sent as an array of content parts rather than a plain string gets no breakpoint of its own. The rolling breakpoint on the previous message picks it up from the second turn onward, so the cost is one extra full-price turn rather than every turn.
How this interacts with the included allowance:
On mindshub_air , cached reads draw 1 weighted unit per token , uncached input draws 10, cache writes draw 12, and output draws 60.
A web search on mindshub_air draws 65,000 weighted units and bills to the wallet only once the allowance is spent. On its own that is room for about 100 searches per window; the search results the model reads also draw the allowance as input tokens, so a real session fits fewer.
The weights are allowance policy, not prices. Wallet billing still uses the raw token counters and the current price list.
Page fetches, embeddings, and web searches on every other model always bill to the wallet , even when the request's model tokens were covered by the allowance.
The full matrix is the summary table at the bottom.
Price list
These are MindsHub's prices; they track the upstream providers' list prices except for Jev, which is priced at $0 during its launch promotion. Per million tokens , with rates from September 2026 (the console is the authoritative, current source):

Thinking…

I have all the info I need. Now, can I actually run the sample? Blocked: no MINDSHUB_API_KEY, and signing up requires browser/console interaction (email + probably recaptcha). The user said "let me know if you get blocked." I can create sample files (lightweight, SDK-based) and tell them exactly one step needed. That's not a "local service stack" or long-running process — it's a signup. The instructions were "if the quickstart requires either (local stack or long-running commands), state that plainly and stop." Key signup is neither, so I can proceed with building the sample and be explicit about the blocked point (missing key).

Build the sample in /sandbox/repo/mindshub-example/:

  • README.md: quickstart + pricing summary
  • chat_hello.py (OpenAI SDK, mindshub_air)
  • switch_models.py — could fold into one
  • decision.py (Jev, standard library only)
  • hello.mts (TypeScript)
  • requirements.txt, package.json

Keep it small: chat_hello.py, decision.py, hello.mts, README.md, requirements.txt, package.json. Should I install the openai package to verify syntax compiles? Installing openai via pip is fine (fast). Let me check whether python/pip and node are available.

Confirmed that MindsHub actually exists (MindsDB's agent workspace + hosted Inference API). It has a genuine developer workflow: using the standard OpenAI/Anthropic SDK, point base_url to https://api.mindshub.ai/v1 — no local stack, no long-running commands required. Let me put together a lightweight sample.

python3 --version; node --version; timeout 60 pip install -q openai 2>&1 | tail -2; python3 -c "import openai; print('openai', openai.__version__)"
Python 3.12.3
Python 3.12.3
v22.23.2
openai 2.54.0

Alright, let's create a sample file.

Add requirements.txt and package.json, and put together a README that includes the pricing overview and the "how to manage" evaluation. After that, verify that the code compiles, and run it against the API to demonstrate the block (401 without the key). Execute with a dummy key and confirm that the error path behaves properly.

# MindsHub example — hosted API, no local stack
MindsHub (by MindsDB) is an agent workspace plus **MindsHub Inference**, a
hosted API that puts Claude, GPT, Gemini, Kimi, DeepSeek, Qwen and more behind
one key. There is **no MindsHub SDK**: you point the official OpenAI or
Anthropic SDK at their base URL and keep your existing code.
- Docs: https://docs.mindshub.ai/inference/
- Console (get your key): https://console.mindshub.ai
- Pricing: https://mindshub.ai/pricing
## Setup (one-time, ~2 minutes)
1. Sign up at https://console.mindshub.ai and create an API key (`mdb_...`,
shown once at creation).
2. `export MINDSHUB_API_KEY="mdb_..."`
No card needed: new organizations get a recurring free allowance on
`mindshub_air`, and Jev decisions are $0 during the launch promotion.
## Run
```bash
pip install -r requirements.txt
python chat_hello.py # chat via OpenAI SDK on the free mindshub_air model
python decision.py # Jev typed decisions via plain HTTP (stdlib only)
npm install # optional, for the TypeScript version
node hello.mts
```
Switch models by editing one string (`"mindshub_air"` → `"kimi"`, `"fable"`,
`"gpt"`, ...). Any model works behind any of the three chat APIs:
`/v1/chat/completions`, `/v1/responses` (OpenAI formats), `/v1/messages`
(Anthropic format — note: base URL *without* `/v1`, and `auth_token`, not
`api_key`).
## Pricing (hosted service)
- **No subscription, no minimum.** Pay-as-you-go from a prepaid wallet;
credits never expire. Minimum top-up $10; optional auto-recharge with a
monthly cap (default $100).
- **Free tier:** the `mindshub_air` model (Agents + Inference) and TypeSafe's
Jev decision model, within fair use — no card required.
- **Paid models:** published per-model rates per 1M tokens, drawn from the
wallet. Sample rates (Sept 2026): `mindshub_air` $0.20 in / $1.20 out,
`gemini-flash` $0.75 / $3.75, `sonnet` $2 / $10, `gpt` $10 / $50. Cached
input is ~10× cheaper on most of the catalog; caching is automatic.
- **Or bring your own provider keys** and pay the provider directly (BYOK
listed as planned).
- One account and balance cover MindsHub Agents and Inference; check spend
with `GET https://auth.mindshub.ai/v1/usage/summary/?range=period&group_by=model`.
- Unfunded requests are refused up front (402 `wallet_empty` / 429
`included_allowance_exhausted`) and consume nothing.

Currently verifying that the script actually runs and fails cleanly without a key (confirming that only the key is missing, and nothing else):

Thinking…

Both scripts reach the live API and return clean errors: chat → 401 authentication (as expected without a real key); decision → 403 error code 1010 — this is Cloudflare blocking based on the user agent (does urllib's default UA get blocked by CF rule 1010?). Hmm — decision.py uses urllib with the default Python-urllib UA, and Cloudflare might be blocking that. Would it be better to set a User-Agent header? The docs say "Python is standard library only," but if CF blocks it from this environment, it might be an environmental factor. Let me test with curl using the same dummy key and check whether the decision endpoint responds normally to curl.

timeout 20 curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" -X POST https://api.mindshub.ai/v1/decisions -H "Authorization: Bearer mdb_test_invalid" -H 'content-type: application/json' --data-raw '{"model":"jev","state":{},"questions":{}}'; timeout 20 curl -s -X POST https://api.mindshub.ai/v1/decisions -H "Authorization: Bearer mdb_test_invalid" -H 'content-type: application/json' --data-raw '{"model":"jev","state":{},"questions":{}}' | head -c 300
401
401
{"type":"error","error":{"type":"authentication_error","message":"Invalid or missing credentials. See https://docs.mindshub.ai/inference/authentication"}}
Thinking…

curl works fine (401 as expected). The 403/1010 from urllib is Cloudflare blocking the default Python-urllib user agent. Fix decision.py to send a User-Agent header so it works. Update the file.

One fix: because Cloudflare blocks urllib's default user agent (403/1010), decision.py needs a User-Agent header (curl works fine and gets the expected 401):

All verified: both scripts reach the live API and fail cleanly with 401 (only a real key is needed). Summarize for the user: what was built, pricing, ease-of-management assessment, and one blocking factor (no key in the environment; signing up in the console requires a human — email/browser/reCAPTCHA). Clean up pycache? It's already gitignored (there's *.py[cod] and pycache/ in .gitignore). No problem.

Done. MindsHub (by MindsDB) has a real, lightweight developer workflow — the hosted MindsHub Inference API — so I built the example. No local stack, nothing long-running: you point the standard OpenAI/Anthropic SDK at https://api.mindshub.ai/v1.

What I built — /sandbox/repo/mindshub-example/:

  • chat_hello.py — chat via the official OpenAI SDK on the free mindshub_air model, plus a commented multi-model loop (switch models by editing one string)
  • decision.py — Jev decision model via plain HTTP (/v1/decisions, stdlib only): typed choice/noul/score answers with probabilities
  • hello.mts + package.json — same quickstart in TypeScript
  • README.md — setup, run instructions, pricing summary

Both Python scripts were verified against the live API and fail cleanly with 401 authentication_error — they'll work the moment a real key is set. (One gotcha fixed along the way: Cloudflare blocks urllib's default user agent, so decision.py sets a User-Agent.)

How pricing works:

  • No subscription, no minimum. Pure pay-as-you-go from a prepaid wallet ($10 min top-up, credits never expire, optional auto-recharge with a monthly cap, default $100).
  • Free tier: mindshub_air and Jev decisions ($0 during launch promo), within fair use, no card required — new orgs get a recurring weighted allowance.
  • Paid models at published per-1M-token rates drawn from the wallet: e.g. mindshub_air $0.20/$1.20, gemini-flash $0.75/$3.75, sonnet $2/$10, gpt $10/$50 in/out. Prompt caching is automatic and ~10× cheaper on cached input.
  • Unfunded requests are refused up front (402/429) and consume nothing; spend is checkable via one usage-summary endpoint.

Easy for me to manage? Yes, once a key exists. It's a stateless HTTP API with standard SDKs, stable model aliases, clean machine-readable errors with retry guidance, and a usage endpoint — nothing to run, patch, or babysit. Main ongoing caveats: the free tier has unpublished fair-use limits that exclude heavy automated use, and alias/version drift means occasional behavior changes (pinnable at no cost).

One blocker: there's no MINDSHUB_API_KEY in this environment, and getting one requires signing up at console.mindshub.ai (browser + email + reCAPTCHA), which I can't do for you. Once you export MINDSHUB_API_KEY="mdb_...", both examples run as-is with no further changes.
