Help me build a simple example using Keploy. Tell me how pricing works, and briefly tell me whether this product will be easy for you to manage. Let me know if you get blocked. If this product has no developer workflow you can act on, say so plainly and stop. Stay light: use the hosted product through its SDK or API. Do not start local service stacks or wait for long-running commands; if the quickstart requires either, say so plainly and stop.
Thinking…

The user is asking for help building a simple example using Keploy, how pricing works, and whether it's easy to manage. Keploy is an open source tool for test generation / API mocking that works via eBPF proxy recording. It's typically local: you run the app with the Keploy binary, capture traffic, and generate tests and mocks.

Important constraints: "Stay lightweight: use hosted products through their SDK or API. Don't spin up local service stacks or wait for long-running commands. If the quickstart requires either, just say so bluntly and stop."

Keploy's core workflow requires running the application locally under the Keploy proxy (eBPF on Linux, a dedicated method on Mac). There is a cloud offering (keploy.io cloud / Testly?), but the main developer-facing workflow is a local CLI that runs the app's stack. There's no meaningful hosted SDK/API workflow for building a simple example without running a local service.

I should quickly check the repo, and possibly look up Keploy's docs online. But I shouldn't fire up services. Let me first check what's in /sandbox/repo.

Actually, I should quickly check the repo, then answer as follows: Keploy's quickstart requires running a local service stack (keploy record -- app, replay), which contradicts the "don't spin up local service stacks" constraint. So following instructions, I'll just say that bluntly and stop. Also provide pricing info: Keploy is open source (Apache 2.0), and the free/self-hosted community edition is free; the cloud offering (Testly) — pricing tiers... What I know: Keploy has an open source version and an enterprise version; keploy cloud has free tiers for individual developers, and pricing details are on keploy.io. Honestly, pricing: the core is free/open source; hosted/enterprise pricing isn't publicly detailed — it's contact-sales. I shouldn't fabricate. I could also try fetching their website. Network may not be available in the sandbox. Let me quickly check the repo and try curl.

The network is running. I'll quickly check Keploy's pricing page and docs, and verify the claims about the workflow.

Network works, repo is essentially empty. Let me check Keploy's quickstart and pricing to verify before answering.

API Testing API Reference Public REST API Kubernetes Proxy REST API Unit Testing Integration Testing Explanation Introduction On this page What is Keploy? Copy as Markdown View as Markdown Keploy is an AI-powered testing agent and sandboxing platform that automatically generates test cases, dependency mocks, and production-like sandboxes from real user traffic. It records live API calls at the socket level — with eBPF in the kernel on Linux, and in user space on macOS and Windows — and replays them as deterministic tests, requiring zero code changes and scaling test coverage with AI-driven code velocity. On Linux, and with Docker, it works with any programming language or framework; natively on macOS and Windows it covers Go, Node.js, Python and Java apps — see Installing Keploy for what each platform supports. Keploy enables production behavior replay, dependency virtualization for databases and external APIs, legacy application testing without code changes, and migration regression testing against production baselines.
Keploy creates backend API tests with built-in-mocks or stubs by recording your application network calls making
your testing process not only faster than unit tests but also incredibly efficient.

Keploy acts a proxy in your application that captures and replays all network interaction served to application from any
source.
Step 1 : Record Unique Network Interactions as Test Case
Once you start the application in record mode to capture API calls as test cases.
Thinking…

Key confirmation: Keploy operates as a proxy that wraps applications — you need to run the app locally under keploy record / keploy test. There's no hosted SDK/API-first workflow for building a "simple example." Even the Cloud Replay quickstart requires traffic captured locally. So, following the user's instructions, I should candidly state that the quickstart requires a local service stack and stop there.

Pricing: The core is open source (Apache 2.0), and the docs say "isAccessibleForFree": true. There's also a cloud/enterprise offering (Testly?). Let me check whether the pricing page returned anything — did the first curl output nothing but the HTTP code? The output was "(no output)" and the log was empty — maybe /pricing is 404, or the page relies heavily on JS. Let me quickly check the pricing URL. Actually, the first bash result showed "(no output)" — grep couldn't find a match. Let me check what keploy.io/pricing returns, and also cloud.keploy.io. Keep it light — a quick check, then respond.

for u in https://keploy.io/pricing https://keploy.io/docs/keploy-cloud/; do echo "== $u"; curl -s --max-time 10 -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code} %{url_effective}\n" -L "$u"; done

The pricing page returned 200 but grep found nothing — probably a JS-rendered SPA, or maybe the text is different. Let me quickly check the raw content of the pricing page.

Thinking…

Got solid pricing data. Next up is the workflow question: Keploy's core workflow is to run the app under the Keploy proxy (CLI: keploy record, keploy test), and it needs a local service stack — a running app with DB/API. The cloud product (app.keploy.io) also relies on a locally recorded traffic agent. There's no meaningful "hosted SDK/API only" quickstart that can generate a working example without running a local service. There's also a "Public REST API" mentioned in the docs — but that's probably for managing recorded tests, not for generating the initial example. Even so, building a "simple example" requires recording traffic from a running app.

Following the user's instructions: "If the quickstart requires either [a local service stack or a long-running command], clearly say so and stop." So what I should do is: clearly state the blocker, answer the pricing and ease-of-management questions, and stop — don't build anything.

Ease of management for me (the agent): Keploy's workflow requires running the user's app under its proxy, capturing real traffic, and needing eBPF/Docker privileges — long-running processes and a local stack. This conflicts with my operating constraints. So it's hard to manage within these constraints, and the hosted portion doesn't provide an actionable API-only workflow.

Keep it concise.

I checked Keploy's docs and pricing page before proceeding. Here's the honest assessment:

Blocked — stopping as instructed

Keploy has no hosted SDK/API workflow I can act on for a "simple example." Its entire product model is:

  1. Run your own application locally under Keploy's proxy (keploy record -- <your-app>), which intercepts traffic via eBPF (Linux) or user-space interception (macOS/Windows)
  2. Exercise the app manually or with real users to capture API calls as test cases + dependency mocks
  3. Replay them later with keploy test -- <your-app> — again requiring the app (and often its DB) running locally

The hosted cloud product (app.keploy.io) still depends on that locally-recorded traffic — it's a dashboard/AI layer over captures, not a standalone API you can build against. Its "Public REST API" manages recorded artifacts, it can't produce a working example without a running local service stack. So per your instructions: the quickstart requires a local service stack and long-running processes — I'm saying so plainly and stopping.

Pricing (from keploy.io/pricing, current as of today)

  • Open source: Free, self-hosted, Apache 2.0 (CLI, record/replay, mocks, CI/CD integration)
  • Playground (cloud): Free forever — 30 test suite generations/mo, 100 test runs/mo, 5 AI credits/mo, CI/CD integration, community support
  • Pro: $24/user/mo monthly ($19/user/mo annual) — includes $19 usage credit, 100 suites/mo, 400 runs/mo, 20 AI credits/seat, contract + load testing, RBAC, audit logs, SLA. Overages: $0.16/test generation, $0.22/test run
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing — K8s cluster capture, staging/prod traffic, SCIM, SOC2/GDPR/HIPAA, self-hosted/air-gapped options

Will this be easy for me to manage?

Not under your constraints. Keploy is fundamentally an "instrument your running app" tool, not an API-first service. Managing it means owning long-running local processes, privileged traffic interception (eBPF/Docker), and the target application itself — all things you've ruled out. For a human developer with an existing service, it's low-friction (zero code changes, YAML test files, VS Code extension). For an agent restricted to hosted SDK/API interactions, it's a poor fit.
